After shaving with your safety razor for a period of time, if you feel that you would like a slightly closer shave, one can gently shave in the opposite direction. However those just starting out, people with more sensitive skin, or those prone to ingrown hairs should perhaps not avail themselves of this option as redness and razor burn are likely to happen. Just remember, the experience of fine shaving requires slower, careful, gentle strokes. Don't press down!! It is possible that while re-learning(!) the art of shaving, a nick or two is likely to happen to all of us. It's just your face telling you to wake up and pay attention to the wonders of fine shaving!
