Instructions for sliding the blade for the Christy Knife: While learning, it is easiest to use both hands. Hold the knife in the right hand with the button in the front. With the left thumb, press the button sideways to the edge of the handle, then slide the blade forward. It will lock in 3 open positions as well as closed. After a few times you will be able to easily operate the Christy Knife with one hand, either right hand or left hand.
This history is included in the Christy Knife gift box flyer: " The Christy Knife was invented by R.J. Christy, founder of the Company. After his retirement, he dreamed of this special knife. He awakened, sketched his "dream knife" on a bedside note pad. The next day he carved a prototype of wood and sent it to his son who was managing the Company. Tooling was developed and production was begun in 1936. During WWII, military Post Exchanges around the world sold Christy knives to the men in service. In several instances, the Navy issued the Christy knife to their pilots. Today, the U.S. Customs Agent Training School issues the knife to graduates....Christy knives are sold around the world.....The third generation of the Christy family owns and carefully maintains the high quality standards established over the 106 years of manufacturing excellence. The entire Knife is produced in the Christy Company factory in Fremont, Ohio, U.S.A."
