This professional 5" Dovo stainless steel nail nipper comes apart for easy cleaning. It has flat cutting edges for ingrown nails, a precision come-apart box joint, and a double leaf spring. This nipper is stainless steel with a satin finish, can be sterilized, and will not rust. The total length is 5". Imported directly from Solingen, Germany.
The precision joint will not come apart unless the handles are very wide apart. The joint disassembles and reassembles very smoothly. The precision box joint gives stability to the cutting edges by preventing sideways movement and holding the edges in alignment. Less expensive nippers usually have a lap joint: one blade is laid on top of the other blade, similar to scissors. The lap joint may loosen up more quickly, although this is more likely with inexpensive, non-forged nippers.
As in all quality nippers, the cutting edges of this nipper first meet at the very tip, leaving a wedge-like gap between the edges. When stronger pressure is applied, the edges close and cut in a rocking fashion like a knife on a cutting board. Cutting a small piece of nail at a time with the points of the nail nipper is easier on the nipper and the nail.
These nippers are forged by Dovo in Solingen, Germany. Forging makes the metal harder so the nippers will stay sharp longer. The double leaf spring is often found on professional models. It is more durable and long-lasting than a single leaf spring.
These nail nippers are typically called "stainless steel", and they will not rust in moist conditions and can be sterilized. Autoclave sterilizer may be used. However, they might be more properly termed "stain resistant," since they could possibly stain under greatly adverse conditions. The stains are not rust, and will not affect their quality performance.
The flat cutting edges are most useful for dealing with ingrown nails, but these nail nippers may also be used for the regular cutting of nails.
