Ordering and Shipping Information

Welcome to Heimerdinger Cutlery! We hope this page will answer some commonly asked questions about ordering and shipping from our store. If your question is not addressed here, please e-mail info@heimerdingercutlery.com. If, for any reason, this e-mail account is not functioning, please e-mail us at cheimer@bellsouth.net.

If your order is time-sensitive, we strongly urge you to call us for options so we can meet your needs. Our on-line database does not reflect store stock. We regret we do not yet have the capability to link our computerized inventory program with our e-commerce site to automatically update the quantity available of each of our items. Please consult our store directly to determine in-store availability for any item.

Not in stock, or insufficient stock to fill an order: We will contact you to discuss your order. We try to keep each item in stock, but sometimes demand outstrips supply. If an item is not in stock, or if we have insufficient quantity to fill your order, we will contact you as quickly as possible by e-mail, fax, or phone to discuss how we might complete your order. In particular, we order Solingen (Dovo and Wasa) items direct from Germany, and orders can take six weeks or longer to arrive.

Prices and information are subject to change without notice. Sales Tax is 6% for Kentucky residents only.

Standard Shipping is United Parcel Service (UPS) or Priority Mail. Please call us if you want Express handling or faster UPS shipping for an additional charge.

We ship UPS Monday through Friday. Priority Mail may also go out on Saturday. Items that are in stock often go out within two or three business days, depending on our volume of orders. If an item is not in stock or we have insufficient quantity to fill your order, we will contact you as quickly as possible by e-mail, fax or phone to discuss how we might complete your order.

Shipping Charges and Options:

United Parcel Service: $7.75 is our normal MINIMUM charge for shipping through regular UPS ground service. This includes insurance up to $100.00. We may have to contact you about charging more if the cost of UPS shipping is increased by additional insurance, if the package weight is over five pounds, and for distances more than two states away. If shipping UPS to your address costs more than $7.75, and mailing by priority mail costs less than $7.75, we will try to ship your item by priority mail.

Priority Mail: We often use priority mail for small, lightweight items that can be insured for less than $100. For a very lightweight order where the total value is less than $20, we might send the order without insurance for $5.00 -- but this always depends on the shipping location, value, quantity and weight. The determination is made inhouse if we can afford to send an order without insurance. Otherwise, priority mail costs a minimum of $7.75.

Unfortunately, our website template ALWAYS automatically registers the shipping charge as $7.75 and does not allow for priority mail as a choice. Sorry. If you are ordering on-line, you may request shipping by Priority Mail by typing "Send by Priority Mail" in the "comments on this order" space. Or you can order by phoning us toll-free at 1-888-267-9572 and requesting priority mail shipping. We can adjust the shipping charge on our paper printout by crossing out the normal shipping charge and writing in the priority mail charge, and when we e-mail you, we can tell you the adjusted total. As a small, family-owned-and-operated store, we appreciate trying to save money!

We ship by UPS and Priority Mail because they offer tracking and insurance.

Payment for Online, Phone, Fax, or Mail Orders: We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express. You can phone or fax in your credit card number on our toll-free line. Security Protocol in case of a Credit Card mis-match with address

As part of our security protocol, your address and zip code are checked to see if they match the billing address for your credit card. If the address you give us does not match the credit card number you gave us, we will usually e-mail you, asking you to review the information you provided to us with your order. We will request that you e-mail, fax or phone any corrections necessary. (Please do not e-mail an entire credit card number.) If the information you sent us does not seem to be in error, we are stuck with the problem of a mis-match. In that case, we will request that you please call us to discuss another credit card number or payment option. We regret if this causes a delay in shipping the order.

ORDERS FROM OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES: We receive occasional inquiries about our products from customers outside of the United States. As a very small, family-owned business in Louisville, Kentucky, we have a very simple website formatt which WILL NOT ACCEPT ORDERS from outside the United States. After struggling with trying to fill international orders for several years, we have finally decided we CANNOT accept orders from outside the U.S. The problems are (1) we can't afford the neccessary security protocol; and (2) we don't have a way to figure the exact cost of shipping without a special time-consuming trip to the post office (and a long wait in line), then we have to go back to the store to fill the order and fill out the neccessary post office custom forms, and THEN we have to make another special trip to the post office to hand deliver the package with the custom forms. We simply don't have the staff to do this. We tried a few times to generate mail labels from our store using the U.S. Post Office Click-and-Ship Priority International but the results were unsatisfactory to us and to those customers.

Occasionally, customers have placed orders with us with their billing address in another country and with the shipping address in the United States. The website will let you do this. However, we don't have the security protocol to check the validity of credit cards from other countries, only the United States. Unless your credit card can be linked to a valid United States address, YOU MUST PAY FOR THE ORDER WITH A MONEY ORDER OR A BANK DRAFT IN U.S. CURRENCY. We must receive the payment before we will ship your order.

If you e-mail us about shipping internationally, we will simply refer you to this page and this information. We realize that some of our products are difficult to find elsewhere on the Web, and we regret the disappointment our limitations may cause.
